You know how it goes. Best of intentions, and all that. But really now, we're good to go. So here's the deal: if you're good at writing, a generally liberty-minded person, love to rant, or want to review games, energy drinks, and other such things made of win, let me know. Throw an email my way.

Syncing your Google Contacts to your E71X with SyncML PDF Print E-mail

For quite a while I've been searching for a way to get my Google contacts address book synced to my new Nokia E71x. I've tried a few methods but none of them work very well. Finally I found a way that works, is non-desctructive (like the Mail for Exchange method), and is easy to set up. Without further ado, the instructions, to be illustrated later. Hit the Read More button to find out how.

From the Idle screen (or the Home screen if you prefer) and click the Home button (left of the Calendar button). Select your Settings folder, then select Sync. Press the left soft key labelled "Options" and select New Sync Profile. In the resulting window, press the left soft key labelled "Start". Give the profile a meaningful name, such as Google Sync, and press the left soft key for "Next". On the next screen, use server version 1.2, and select Next. On the next page it will ask for Apps. In Sync. Google's SyncML only supports contacts currently, so uncheck everything except for Address Book. Press the left soft key for Next. In the next screen it will ask for the Address Book Database name. Use "contacts", all lower case, and without the quotes of course, and press Next. On the next screen you'll be asked for a data bearer. Of course, in this case you'll use Internet. Select Next. On the next screen you'll be asked for a host address. Use the address "https://m.google.com/syncml" and select Next. Now it will ask for the Server ID. Use "Google", making sure to use a capital G, and select Next. Now you'll be asked for a User Name. This will be your Google email address, such as This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Fill it in and press Next. Almost done! On the final screen, enter your Google GMail password, and press the left soft key. It will ask if you want to activate the profile now, select Yes. Now use the left soft key labelled "Options" and choose "Synchronize". Next thing you know, you'll be synced up and ready to roll. Remember that this method does not sync automatically, so you will have to remember to manually sync occasionally. I'll report back if I find any apps that automatically run the syncronization.
